Commerce Bank Presidential Student Award for Distinguished Services in Enhancing Multiculturalism

The Commerce Bank Presidential Student Award for Distinguished Services in enhancing Multiculturalism at Kansas State University was established in the spring of 1997 to recognize outstanding individual contributions to diversity enhancement within the student sector.

In 2013, Arts & Sciences student Agela Muhwezi, biology & pre-dentistry, was selected to receive this award.

Multicultural Leadership Award Winners

Each year, the K-State Alumni Association presents Multicultural Leadership Awards to four outstanding multicultural students for their achievements during their college careers at K-State. The individual award recipients are nominated by faculty members. They are recognized at the Multicultural Graduation Celebration in May.

"We are proud to honor these students for their years of service and leadership through multicultural organizations and activities," said Alumni Association president Amy Button Renz. "The results of their efforts in encouraging diversity will leave lasting marks on the university."

In 2014, the ArtSci student recipients were:

  • Anita Easterwood, fine arts, Kansas City
  • Ariel Mendiola, pre-law, sociology and criminology with minors in political science and leadership studies, De Soto, KS

International Leadership Award Winners

The K-State Alumni Association awarded the inaugural International Leadership Awards to four outstanding international students for their achievements during their college careers at K-State, one of which is from the College of Arts & Sciences. The individual award recipients were nominated by faculty members. They were recognized at the International Graduation Celebration in May.

In 2015, the ArtSci student recipient was:

  • Abdulrahman Alkhiary, bachelor’s in political science and economics, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
