About Social Science at K-State

The Social Science Interdisciplinary major focuses primarily on human behavior and society at a variety of levels. K-State social science disciplines include:

  • American Ethnic Studies
  • Anthropology
  • Criminology
  • Economics
  • Geography
  • Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies
  • Mass Communications
  • Political Science
  • Psychology

  • Social Work (Fall 2024 and future)

Students in the Social Science program get to customize their degree based on their particular interests and are highly encouraged to further individualize their academic plan by adding in minors, certificates, secondary majors, or even double majors in a field outside of Social Science. NOTE: This degree is not available to students earning a degree in a Social Science discipline.

A Social Science degree can lead to many types of jobs in business, health fields, non-profit organizations, education, and so many more.

Social Science Programmatic Learning Outcomes

The Social Science major learning outcomes emphasize critical thinking, research skills, and interdisciplinary understanding of human behavior, institutions, and societal structures to prepare students for informed citizenship and diverse professional paths.

  1. Graduates will explain how to address societal issues and understand human behavior through a combination of concepts, theories, or data from multiple social sciences.
  1. Graduates will analyze social issues through the identification of biases, questioning assumptions, and evaluation of evidence.
  1. Graduates will demonstrate the ability to consider issues from multiple perspectives.
  1. Graduates will clearly communicate social science concepts and research.
