Quantitative Course Rubric
Significant portion of the course should satisfy several (multiple) of these criteria:
- Course Content
- Quantitative: The course includes mathematical, statistical, or computational methods. It involves data analysis, numerical problem-solving, or quantitative reasoning.
- Non-Quantitative: The course focuses on theoretical concepts, qualitative analysis, historical context, or descriptive content without involving numerical methods.
- Learning Objectives
- Quantitative: Objectives include mastering mathematical techniques, performing statistical analyses, or developing computational models.
- Non-Quantitative: Objectives focus on understanding theories, developing critical thinking, or exploring qualitative aspects.
- Assignments and Assessments
- Quantitative: Assignments involve solving mathematical problems, conducting statistical analyses, or using computational tools. Assessments include problem sets, quantitative projects, or data analysis tasks.
- Non-Quantitative: Assignments involve essays, theoretical discussions, or qualitative research. Assessments include written reports, presentations, or conceptual exams.
- Course Materials
- Quantitative: Textbooks and materials include mathematical formulas, statistical methods, or computational algorithms. Resources may include software for data analysis or mathematical modeling.
- Non-Quantitative: Textbooks and materials focus on theoretical frameworks, historical context, or qualitative research methods. Resources may include articles, case studies, or theoretical texts.
- Instructional Methods
- Quantitative: Instruction involves teaching mathematical techniques, statistical methods, or computational skills. Lectures and tutorials focus on quantitative problem-solving.
- Non-Quantitative: Instruction involves discussions, theoretical explorations, or qualitative analysis. Lectures and tutorials focus on conceptual understanding and critical thinking.
