Stamey and Gaches Awards

The College of Arts and Sciences annually recognizes teaching and advising excellence in the college with the William L. Stamey Awards for Undergraduate Teaching and Advising and the Ron Gaches Teaching Awards.

William L. Stamey Awards for Undergraduate Teaching and Advising

William L. Stamey is a mathemetician and served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences for seventeen years, 1790-1987. In recognition of Dean Stamey's outstanding record in recruiting excellent faculty to K-State and in recognition of the continuing need to foster excellence in teaching and advising, the College of Arts and Sciences established the William L. Stamey Award.

This fall, the college will select up to two Stamey Teaching Awards to faculty with an award stipend of $1,000 each, one Stamey Teach Award to a GTA with an award stipend of $500 and one Stamey Advising Award with an award stipend of $750.

Ron Gaches Teaching Awards

Ron Gaches, former chair of the College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Council, has established three teaching awards to acknowledge excellence in undergraduate teaching in the college.

The Ron Gaches Lifetime Teaching Award recognizes an outstanding teacher of undergraduate courses who has taught at K-State for a minimum of five years. This award is open to tenured faculty and carries a $2,000 stipend.

Two Ron Gaches Teaching Awards recognize tenured and tenure-track faculty who teach upper-level undergraduate classes (courses numbered 300-600) and who engage in teaching innovations that improve pedagogical practices. Each award carries a stipend of $1,000.
