Three Minute Thesis Competition

The Three Minute Thesis Competition, or 3MT®, first held at The University of Queensland in 2008, is an academic competition that challenges graduate students to present a compelling oration on their thesis/dissertation topic and its significance to a non-expert audience in just three minutes using a single, static slide.

 

2026-2027

Competition divisions

This year, we have options for on-campus and online graduate students to present their research in the Three Minute Thesis competition!

On-campus (Fall 2026 and Spring 2027)

This division requires in-person participation at the K-State Manhattan campus. Finalists compete for awards and the opportunity to represent K-State at a regional 3MT competition.

On-campus competition details

Online (Fall 2026)

In this division, participants will submit a video of their 3MT presentation. While judging will occur asynchronously, presentations will be featured within the on-campus competition. A winning presentation will be selected for an award.
