Mentorship Program

The K-State College of Arts and Sciences B.E.A.M. program mission is to mentor students toward graduation with a degree that will lead them toward their chosen profession. Mentors will bridge education and mentorship (B.E.A.M.) to help students learn the professional skills and knowledge needed to foster relationships that will benefit their future careers.

The Arts and Sciences B.E.A.M. program is open to all current graduate and undergraduate students, including students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences through Global Campus. This program exists within the University-wide online mentorship program, WildcatLink. Students and alumni mentors are welcome and encouraged to utilize the larger platform for networking, but by joining our program, students are better enabled to request industry-specific knowledge from our alumni. In turn, alumni mentors who join this program indicate to our students that they have knowledge and experience relative to our students' academic areas.

If you have any questions about the B.E.A.M. program, please contact Chris Shumway at (785) 532-6904 or cshumway@ksu.edu. Alternatively, questions may also be directed to artsci@k-state.edu.

Students and alumni mentors interested in joining this program should visit wildcatlink.ksu.edu and refer to the detailed instructions below:
For Students

Step 1: Visit wildcatlink.ksu.edu and click "Join our Community".

Step 2: Register with your eID. You may register using Facebook, LinkedIn, or your K-State email, however; doing so may result in a longer screening period and application process. It is not recommended for students to join using any external platforms. Your eID is the fastest way to start connecting in WildcatLink.

Step 3: Select join as "Student".

Step 4: Enhance your profile. A complete application will lead to better connections.

Step 5: Be sure to select the B.E.A.M. program when prompted to select a mentorship program. This will help you quickly find alumni with relevant experience.

Step 6: Get started! You can start connecting with users in the Wildcat Network as soon as you complete your profile. Please note that your profile will undergo a brief screening period before you are added to the B.E.A.M. program.

For Alumni and Friends

Step 1: Visit wildcatlink.ksu.edu and click "Join our Community".

Step 2: Register using Fackebook, LinkedIn, or your email. Follow the prompts for any additional authentication.

Step 3: Select join as "Alumni and Friends".

Step 4: Enhance your profile. Students will want to know about your academic and career experiences!

Step 5: Be sure to select the B.E.A.M. program when prompted to select a mentorship program. You are welcome to join multiple programs, should your experience span academic areas in multiple colleges.

Step 6: Get started! You will be able to connect with faculty, staff, and other alumni in the Wildcat Network as soon as you complete your profile. Please note that your profile will undergo a brief screening period before you are added to the B.E.A.M program.

An additional note for alumni and friends: In order to protect the privacy of students, you will not be able to immediately view student profiles. WildcatLink allows students to initiate contact with alumni and friends. Please be patient with this process. By joining WildcatLink, you are expressing a willingness to mentor our students. Students will be able to view your profile and you'll be receiving requests for mentorship sooner than you might expect! You can adjust your availability to mentor students when completing your application and this may be updated at any time.
