Fellowships for the Study of Classical Liberalism Sponsored by the Fred C. and Mary R. Koch Foundation

The Primary Texts program currently offers one Fellowship per semester, worth $4,000 to students in the program who make a successful proposal for independent research. Successful Fellows enroll in three credit hours of Polsc. 785: Readings, and conduct research under the guidance of the Certificate program director. The outcome is a 25-30 page paper.

Fellowship recipients have the additional benefit of having their research paper count as their capstone paper for the Certificate. Research proposals must be on a topic related to liberty, and have included papers on

  • the American Founders,
  • the abolitionist movement,
  • freedom as conceived by ancient and modern political thinkers, and
  • Jean Jacques Rousseau's theories on education and freedom.

For more information, contact Dr. Johnson at lauriej@ksu.edu. Students enrolled in the Primary Texts program are notified each semester of the deadline for proposals.
