BMB Department Head


The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics (BMB) at Kansas State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Head, to begin on June 17, 2018.  The successful applicant is expected to be a tenured Professor of the K-State Department of BMB with a successful record in teaching and service; an appreciation of and achievement in scholarly research studies; a national reputation for scholarship in a field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics; and the ability to work effectively with faculty and students from diverse backgrounds.  Other required qualifications are excellent interpersonal skills and administrative and/or leadership experience.

Current research strengths in the department include physical and structural biochemistry, cellular biochemistry, and the biochemistry of insects and plants.  The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics is in the college of Arts and Sciences. The research appointment of many of the departmental faculty is funded through the Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station.  Responsibilities of the Department Head include evaluation of faculty, oversight of the departmental teaching efforts, administration of departmental budgets, supervision of departmental personnel, and hiring of new faculty members or other departmental personnel.  The Head will lead the department as K-State strives to achieve recognition as a Top 50 Public Research University by 2025 (www.k-state.edu/2025).   The candidate should be able to relate to people of diverse backgrounds and have the desire to further advance diversity in all aspects of departmental activities.
