College of Arts and Sciences Diversity Committee
The College of Arts and Sciences Diversity Committee’s mission is to promote and support diversity in the college and reach out to other groups on campus to have a university-wide inclusive campus. Toward this end, the committee has drafted a Diversity Action Plan, currently under implementation, that contains six core short- and long-term goals. The committee is further subdivided into task forces concentrating on meeting and working towards each major goal and composed of overlapping members to maintain communication and solidarity among the entire committee.
Established in 2004 by then Dean Steve White to foster diversity within the college, it is currently sponsored by Dean Peter Dorhout. The Diversity Committee is composed of 16 staff, student, and faculty members. Faculty represent different areas within the college and hold ranks of instructor and tenure/tenured-track assistant or associate professor, professor, and University Distinguished Professors.
The committee's vision and goal is to strengthen a rich, multicultural and diverse environment among and within students, faculty, and staff both inside and outside the classroom.
